Megan's out running for SPCA

$338 of $1,000 goal
Given by 6 generous donors in around 9 months

I'm running to raise awareness of the SPCA's amazing work to protect, rescue & adopt thousands of animals every year - including Culley!

Auckland

When we were looking to adopt a dog, one of our criteria was that he or she would enjoy coming for a run with us. We were looking for a dog with legs. for. days. And Culley definitely ticks that box.

Culley's legs are still growing but mine aren't, so this year to help make sure other animals get the chance for a good life i'm running more than 100km across nine events to raise funds and awareness for the SPCA. Culley's even chipping in to do one event too!

We adopted Culley from the SPCA at 10 weeks old. The SPCA in Kerikeri found his litter as newborns, before they made their way to Mangere, and eventually he came to us. We got the grooviest, sweetest, little mate who now loves to trot along on a run. Culley wouldn't have found his way to us, or to families like ours without the unbelievable work of the SPCA.

95% of the SPCA's funding comes from individual donors and like many charities they were impacted by COVID. The work they do doesn't come cheap, but has huge rewards:

- $25 will provide medical treatment for one injured animal.

- $50 will keep an inspector’s van on the road for one day.

- $100 will allow us to de-sex, vaccinate and microchip one cat

- $210 will give a puppy a warm bed for a week.

- $500 will provide medical treatment and care for a litter of puppies and their mum.

- $1,000 will provide emergency medical treatment to a severely injured animal.\

For those who know me, I am slow runner with terrible form (and lung capacity) and I really love sleeping in on a Sunday. So if you spare a thought - or a laugh at my madness - for getting up in the dark, in winter, likely in the rain (because, Auckland...), to run up a big hill in the middle of nowhere... please consider making a donation.

So where am I running?

Feb - Round the Bays, 8.4km

Mar - Tails and Trails, 10km (Culley's coming too!)

May - Shakespeare Park, 10.2km

Jun - Waitawa Regional Park, 10.7km

Jul - Waiuku Forest, 12km

Jul - Hunua Ranges, 12.6km

Aug - Totara Park 11.3km

Sep - Riverhead Forest, 14.1km

Nov - Waihi/Karangahake Gorge, 13.4km
