Mike Havill Kopiko Aotearoa - Bikepacking Cape Egmont to East Cape - February 2021

$1,450 donated
Given by 17 generous donors in around 4 months

I would like to raise awareness of Prostate Cancer and the importance of early detection through regular testing. KopikoAotearoaBikepacking

Waikato

I have entered the Kopiko Aotearoa self-supported bikepacking event, setting off at sunrise, 14 February to cycle 1100km, through the centre of the North Island - Cape Egmont Lighthouse to the East Cape Lighthouse at Te Araroa. The big challenges are going to be the 16,500 metres of climbing and the isolated nature of the route. The route passes through New Plymouth, Whangamomona, Ohura, The Timber Trail, Whakamaru, Murupara, Lake Waikaremoana, Matawai, Motu trails, Opotiki, Te Kaha then along coast to Te Araroa and the East Cape Lighthouse. There are 12 photo points along the way. The "trackme" GPS spot tracking link is . http://kopiko.trackme.bike and I will be displayed as Mikeh.

I expect the ride to take 12 -14 days. It's going to be an adventure through parts of the country I have never visited.

This year my ride will be raising funds for Prostate Cancer Foundation of New Zealand. I have had a recent diagnosis of Prostate Cancer, but due to early detection the outlook is very positive.

PCFNZ is a non-profit community based organisation with a goal of eliminating death and suffering from prostate cancer by promoting awareness, providing support and funding research.

I would like to thank again those who supported me in my Tour Aotearoa, Cape Reinga to Bluff event last year and the fundraising for Parkinson's NZ and Neuro Research Charitable Trust. The Parkinson's will be another challenging aspect for me on this ride, as it was last year.

Mike was an inspiration on the KA cycle tour. It is heartwarming to see someone raising money and awareness for others, when they face their own adversity. Good Luck!
