We want to help get Liv to the US for life-changing cerebral palsy surgery to help her walk and stand by herself
Auckland
Our little mate is Liv and, she is 11 years old. She has spastic diplegic cerebral palsy. This means her leg muscles are really tight, making it hard to balance, and she needs a walker to walk.
Liv has a wish…to be able to walk with crutches, so she can go places with steps. She also really loves cooking, so it would be great for her to have the balance to stand at the bench to cook, and also to be able to shower and dress without any help.
Liv has been given an amazing opportunity. She has been accepted for Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy surgery with Dr TS Park, in St Louis in the States. Dr Park has done over 3500 of these surgeries – he is the best. This surgery selectively cuts some sensory nerve fibres from Liv's spastic (tight) leg muscles that enter the spinal cord. This will result in a PERMANENT reduction in spasticity. Liv will then have to do lots of rehabilitation and Dr Park, and his team have said she will get the following results:
- Improved sitting and standing posture
- Transitions between posture will be easier and faster
- Balance and level of comfort will improve
- Liv will be able to walk with crutches, and some independent walking indoors may be possible!!!!!
This surgery will change her life…but she needs your help! This surgery is not funded, and Liv and her Mum (our good mate!) will need to go to the States for 4 weeks. She need to try and fundraise $120,000 to make my wish come true. The funds will be used to pay for the surgery and also flights to St Louis
Any help you can give Liv will be gratefully appreciated, and we know she will work so hard to make her wish come true, and make everyone proud of her.
We are participating in the 2017 Coast to Coast on Feb 10th and 11th 2017, and in doing so want to try and raise some funds towards Liv's cause. Help give us old fellas a reason to keep going!
Any donation you can make small or large all helps, thanks in advance
We are involved because we know Liv as a special girl, who will fight really hard to make her dream come true, and want her to have the best chance in life. This surgery is not funded or done in New Zealand.
