Weaving together communities around urgent, strategic action on climate change in the Nelson-Tasman region

Nelson / Tasman

The Nelson Tasman Climate Forum is a community-led initiative open to everyone.

Our mission is to weave our communities together around urgent, strategic action on climate change in the Nelson-Tasman region. It's about bringing everyone along on the climate change journey. We are guided by our 3 key documents: our Charter, the Climate Action Book - An Action Plan for Nelson Tasman, and our Weaving Plan (all published on our website).

The Climate Action Book tells the story of where our region wants to be and how we’ll get there together. It suggests actions for individuals, community groups, businesses and governance organisations to mitigate and adapt to climate change in a way that builds wellbeing of our communities and the natural world. It is the result of 12 months of collaborative input from over 600 people in the region, including representatives from both Councils and several iwi o Te Tau Ihu.

The Climate Forum's Weaving Plan explains the Community-Led Development role that the Forum will play in helping to implement the Climate Action Book. It describes the four action categories we have adopted: Connecting the Dots, Grassroots Action, Education, and Advocacy. Our 7 topic groups represent the chapters of the Climate Action Book, from transport to community resilience. Other groups work across all topics, including Society and Culture, Supporting Schools and Science, Technology and Research groups. There's something for everyone to get involved in. Everyone is welcome!
