Nelson
The Nelson Women's Centre - Te Whare Āwhina Mō Ngā Wāhine Puawai - has been supporting women and their whānau for over 30 years. We are a community and support centre for all women and non-binary people, in the heart of Nelson, New Zealand.
Currently we have temporarily closed our social work and drop-in services due to a funding crisis, but our workshops and affordable counselling services are still available and people are welcome to get in contact with us in order to arrange a drop-in by appointment for food support or general visits.
We are a hoping to reinstate our Social Worker Services in 2025 and are currently seeking donations specifically for our Social Worker services. We are aiming to raise $10 000 to cover wages and associated overheads. Delivering a social worker service (including overheads) costs approx $75 per hour.
As a non-profit organisation we rely on external funding to support women. If you like to support us to support women, please consider volunteering with us or donate here.
The Governance Committee are focused on developing a business model that has some longer-term funding streams that sit alongside the funding that it receives from community funding organisations and donations. Once we are confident that the funding is secure, we will look to re-employ a small team with the objective of reopening the Centre fully by Womens International Day on March 8th 2025.
The Nelson Women’s Centre is a community resource centre that supports women and children in the Nelson/Tasman region. The Centre hosts a number of low-cost services, including counselling, free social work/advocacy and creative/self development workshops.
