Lets raise funds for suicide prevention and open discussion for all on mental health issues. A fight or life, so to speak.
Wellington
On the 5th of May 2018 I will aim/hope to "get into the ring" for the first time ever. The cause, a charity boxing event to raise funds with a focus on the reduction of suicide. This is a something close to my heart with friends and colleagues lost to suicide throughout my life.
I have long held the desire to climb into the square circle. Not to hurt anybody, but to test myself against another willing participant in a controlled and safe manner. To apply myself for the 14 weeks leading up to the event, to train and diet and learn to feel comfortable with someone throwing punches at me, will be the truest test.
I want to raise awareness toward an open dialogue on the reduction of suicide. Suicide is a serious mental health and social issue today. Unfortunately New Zealand has the highest rate of youth suicide in the developed world (according to a Unicef report). Such a waste of potential and future opportunity.
As a teen, I too struggled with mental health issues and held some morbid and suicidal thoughts. Fortunately I was able to rely on close friends and the love of family to get me through. I want to be involved and an agent for change in the lives of others who may be dealing with issues.
Such a good cause and something I will be training my heart out for.
Please stay posted, I will do my best...
Thanks for your support!
I heard about IT Heavy Hitters and the positive work they are doing toward social change in attitudes to suicide prevention.
By putting myself out there to affect some change, can only be a good thing. A great cause and something worthwhile to support.
