One Fundraiser To Rule Them All

This year I’m doing just one fundraiser, raising awareness, giving thanks and sharing donations with both Brain Tumour Support NZ AND Shocking Pink (who support young women with breast cancer). Both have helped me so much! I literally can’t choose between them - and I don’t have to.

Why now? May is Brain Tumour Awareness Month and 1 June is my birthday (Sarah Awareness Month). Between my brain tumour, Donald, and breast cancer treatments, I suffer from headaches and fatigue. Running two or more fundraisers a year is tough. Asking for money all the time is hard, too. So this year, I’m streamlining!

I’m also having a unilateral breast reduction symmetry surgery on 5 June. Since my brain tumour diagnosis in 2020, I’ve had two brain surgeries, one ear surgery, been diagnosed with breast cancer and had a lumpectomy surgery, chemo and radiation on my right breast. Breasts are more like sisters than twins, but treatment has further altered my breast shape and size. I feel silly complaining about a few cup sizes when I know other people are losing so much more. I feel vain and privileged. Another surgery will also interrupt my recovery and affect my fatigue. It’s been a hard decision and sharing this is tough, even for me! But I am tough. Sharing raises awareness. That’s how we normalise things. Also, my brain knows I deserve to live my breast life!
