Fundraising for Amnesty International NZ
Auckland
On Sunday 15th August, Deobandi Islamist religious-political movement and military organization 'The Taliban' seized control of Afghanistan's capital Kabul, overturning the government and nation's power into their hands. People of Afghanistan are facing an uncertain future and putting citizens at risk. With Sharia Law being introduced over the nation, many women fear for their rights, safety, and access to education and work. There have also been countless casualties due to protests against The Taliban rule and attempts to flee the country with no international aid. The New Zealand Government has currently made the commitment to evacuate New Zealand Citizens and those who helped our forces and dependents in Afghanistan, however, there have been no measures put in place to ensure there is a safe passageway for Afghanistan people whose lives are currently at risk.
In conjunction with Amnesty International NZ, we are calling on the New Zealand Government to...
- Widen evacuation support from Afghanistan to more people, including those who are particularly vulnerable to attack such as: civil society workers, journalists, academics, activists, women human rights defenders and other vulnerable people, as well as Afghan nationals who have family in Aotearoa New Zealand
- Expedite visas, deliver support for evacuations from Kabul airport and provide relocation and resettlement
- Action an immediate pause on the deportation of people to Afghanistan
All humans deserve to live in places of peace and harmony regardless of the political beliefs or the regime of their home country. All proceeds from Paras' Lockdown Live will be donated to Amnesty International New Zealand to help raise funds for Afghanistan's current crisis, urging the New Zealand Government to provide a safe passage to people fleeing Afghanistan to Aotearoa.
