Parkinsons New Zealand Fundrasing

  • Done it and thank you all

It is done. Finished both days, both with awesome teams that I met on the day. The purpose of this event is to help each other, and 'leave no one behind'. This couldn't have been more truthful on the day. Both days were cold, making the conditions tough, and contributed to a number of minor injuries. However, as a team we all finished and had a great time supporting each other on the day.

The good thing for me is that I am able to recover and relax, for others with Parkinson's, its not at easy, and that is what I respect the most for such people. Each day has the potential to be like this, and I can only imagine the mental strength and grit one has to have to push through them. kudos to those who push through with this condition and Kudos for those who support them!

But before i sign out, i would like to thank a few people:

Liam at the Gym (Fastlane Fitness), for pushing me each week and making me nearly curse him. without the dedication the days would have been much more tougher.

The two teams on each day. I entered as a individual, and quickly befriended them on the course We stuck together all the way through. Made the journey much more fun (even offered to carry each other over the finish line if needed!)

Every single donator here, every time I was on the course I was thinking of the moral and financial support each person offered.

Special mention to a crazy man (and his better half) that i met on the course with a cowbell to cheer everyone on, as well as support this cause financially.

and finally a big thank you to my wife and family who supported me throughout the preparation. and on the day.

  • two weeks to go!!

      23 October 2018

two weeks till Tough Mudder, i had a sneak preview of a "small" ditch the team were excavating...not sure if it was quite deep enough for china...but maby?!..will be a good challenge

Thanks all for the donations/support so far for Parkinsons NZ, $550 so far! (well just under) and there are more pledges out there that are in the pipe line. Its been a hard journey, but rewarding none the less. At the moment its more excitement and willingness to get into it, just putting as much effort as i can into training so that i do the event and the organisation proud.

The biggest thing i have found so far is the need for support from others for some things, we can't always do things on our own. While we may be proud and have a can do many things, its also important to know that there are people and organisations such as Parkinson's NZ and others that are there when you need it. But each organisation needs support from the kind people, like yourself, to keep things moving. Its a team effort by everyone.

On a aside, and while this distracts from the cause I am supporting, there are other out there that need their help. I encourage others to think about them, what is dear to their heart, and do what they can to those organisations.

again if you feel you can donate the Parkinson's cause - or any others, please, think about them and support them as best you see fit.

  • two months to go & yay to $400!

      4 September 2018

Hmm two months to go till I do the Tough Mudder...it seems a age away, but at the same time if i don't prepare enough the day won't be that pleasant.

Its the same for Parkinson's, Preparation, determination and sheer grit gets through the days, both good and bad. The good days are always the best, although it not without effort. However the effort required to get through a bad day is that much worse.

But someone who has Parkinson's also has great potential for tenacity, the ability to persevere and think big. This is a key positive action for someone with the condition and their supporters. Just because they are unable to achieve something at the same level doesn't mean they can't try. Each day they have the ability to try and improve their physical or mental status as best they can, walk a little bit further, go to the gym...and some also take up a new hobby, find new and supporting social groups, some even take up singing. They also remember the good times and look forward to good times ahead, perhaps a social trip or simply a future family event. They can't get everything back, but they can have small gains from time to time, which is more important that constant and regular loss.

In terms of the donations, i am stoked at everyone's generosity, every little bit helps here, and may people have been very kind. All i hope for, is that people continue to take up the cause, by offering support or by passing on the message.

  • Benchmark $300!!

      31 July 2018

Yay, so I have hit the $300 mark, or rather the fundraising amount of $300. This time I have to put it to the public vote, for the amount reached so far what exercise should i do? put you comments in below, and I will choose from the list...or may even let a member of Parkinsons NZ make the choice for me...a decision I may regret! Exercise will be followed though this Sunday....possibly with some blood sweat and tears...depending on the severity!

Again, i have to thank every one of you, this cause is bigger than me or than the a mud run event itself. Its about looking after others and the gratitude you get in return...

  • Training, week two

      25 July 2018

So its been two weeks since i started my training in for the event, and i have found out how unfit i really am, but at the same time i have also found out that if you push yourself hard enough you can get through the training and reap the rewards over the long term. Sunday's are the best, do a weights rep, run 400m (as a break) followed by another rep. Rinse and repeat till i am just about dead and have traveled 7km on the treadmill

While this is as much about my journey to get fit for the event, its also about taking other people along, be it by the generous donations received so far, by the sharing of the posts or simply by getting the word out there that sometime a smile or helping someone can mean the world to them, especially when their world is crashing around them. Its really touching out there there that not only family and friends support this cause, but also that that Parkinsons NZ received a donation from and annonymous source - this really made me smile, someone who i don't know cares about others...and thats what this journey is all about ...doing something and helping others, and looking after each other, because sometimes we don't always want help but are grateful when we receive it.

Please, if you haven't already done so...consider the cause and the journey, in any way that best suits you....i will keep everyone posted here as continue my training and cause
