Fundraising for Fundraising for Thames Environmental Alliance
Thames, Waikato
Kia ora friends!
Our next working bee is the end of August when we'll be planting the cleared area around the new Moanataiari Lookout. You can read details here: https://tea.org.nz/2025/08/12/30th-august-2025-moanataiari-lookout-planting-bee/
We'll need to buy low-growing plants like muelenbeckia axillaris (wirevine, a good hardy groundcover) hebe stricta (lovely small bushes), coprosma rhamnoides (also called twiggy coprosma), and mingimingi.
The plants themselves will cost approximately $200, then $20 for water crystals to help the planting become established.
Anything raised above what we need for this project will go towards the next TEA working bee. Thanks so much for your support!
Moanataiari - we made it! 31 August 2025
Thanks so much for your generosity! TEA and some awesome volunteers spent Saturday afternoon getting the lookout planted, watered, and ready to grow. It's looking fantastic - and you had a big hand in that!
With your donations, we were able to purchase about 140 native plants, including mapere (Gahnia setifolia), pukio (Carex virgata), wharariki (Phormium cookianum), some smaller bushes of Coprosma rhamnoides, and a rugged, prostrate Muelenbeckia axillaris which we hope will spread and provide good ground cover.
