Please help all Fijians have access to electricity and support Fiji's plans to slash its greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.

As many of my family and friends know, there is nothing I am more passionate about then saving our planet and helping those in need.
Globally, over 1 billion people are still not connected to the grid. Every year, this consumer base burns over $30 Billion (USD) of their hard-earned income on candles, disposable batteries and kerosene to meet their energy needs. These energy sources are expensive, inefficient and hazardous. This is the 21st century, yet more than a billion people still rely on lighting sources from the 1800s.
With no power lines available, and other forms of energy such as diesel-powered generators extremely expensive to operate, access to electricity for many families in Fiji has, until recently, remained a constant challenge.
Renewable energy sources – using the sun, wind and water – are more environmentally friendly and sustainable than traditional sources and can prove cheaper in the longer run. Solar energy is one of the best renewable energy sources gifted to us from the sun. It's pollution-free, it causes no green house gasses, it's available every day of the year...even on cloudy days and it reduces reliance on foreign oil and fossil fuels. In the Pacific Islands, where sun, wind and water are readily available, renewable energy remains an untapped opportunity to provide people with electricity in sustainable ways.
Please help me by contributing to my challenge and making sure all Fijians have access to electricity by 2021 and support Fiji's plans to slash its greenhouse gas emissions by 30 percent by 2030.
Thank you for your support and kindness.

This challenge is raising money for The Solar Project, and every $5 raised provides a solar light to a family in need in a rural village in Fiji. I have committed to going without some form of electricity or technology for 40 hours.
New goal 22 July 2020
I received two very generous donations, so I have decided to raise my goal to $500. Thank you so much to those who have already donated so generously!
Challenge yourself to go 40 hours without some form of technology or electricity and give families in rural Fiji the gift of solar light
