    Hi everyone

Here is my final update for the givealittle page.

I tore my calf muscle 9 days before the event which left me unable to train for the most part, only having 2 x 1 hour training sessions the Thursday and Friday before the big night. Needless to say, the 8 weeks of training before that left me in good steed for what was to come on fight night

My opponent came out very aggressive, and reflecting on her fight more than mine, I think her plan may have been to go hard at me and knock me out. However, my fight plan was to take all that she threw at me, and then throw my own combos when I had the opportunity to. It was not the fight plan I had in my head to start with, but I had to adjust and reexamine what I was going to do in a matter of seconds.

I had so much love and support in the crowd and at home watching on the night. I'm happy to tell you all that I won my fight, a majority decision by the judges. At 52, I'm very proud of my effort, resilience, strength in completing this event.

Thanks to those who donated to my charity ❤️

My beautiful, dear friend, I was at an unveiling in Auckland; otherwise, I would have been right there screaming out in support of you!! I am more proud of you than words can describe! Wow Wow Wow!!!! Reading this makes me even more in awe!!! My gut told me that you would win, yet you had a lot of cons against you, and you still came out on top!!! Incredible stamina, heart and soul!!! Much love and continued blessings to you always my girl!!! xoxo

  • Fight camp update

      9 October 2025

    Hi guys

Fight camp came to an end on Saturday the 4th of October. After 10 weeks of training, the event delivered 18 fights, 36 fighters, and a full house, the town hall was packed and delivered with an intense and enthusiastic crowd cheering.

I was the semi main event, the 17th fight, so it was a long day, but I'm happy to say I came away with the win. A personal win, and a win for the Otago Hospice. It was a special night, 52 years old and smashing goals. The next is the Queenstown Marathon November 15th.

Take care everyone, your never too old to try something new.

A quick update on my progress in Punch with Purpose 5. This Saturday, the 6th of September, the Corporate fighters will be participating in a in-house event. We are now coming to the end of our 6th week, and the point of the in-house event is for the coaches to pair up corporates who they think are suited together in ability, weight, and fitness. It gives the coaches an opportunity to see if they have the right fit or not. This is the precursor to the big fight night itself at the town hall on the 4th of October. There are 3, 1 and a 1/2 minute rounds with a 1 minute break in between. This is the same on fight night.

I have been training hard at the club, as well as training at work, and in my own time. I ran close to 6 kms on Monday afternoon. I ride my e bike to work and home every day, so I'm putting in 100%, and I'm totally committed to finishing this event, which is only 4 weeks away, and supporting The Otago Hospice. I'm still working at the hospice every Saturday afternoon.

    Arohanui, Raukura 💜

  • Week 5 -halfway mark

      25 August 2025

    Kiaora everyone

Im at the halfway mark, training has been tough not only physically but mentally and emotionally. I cried for the first time last Wednesday since training camp has started. It was the first time in the ring, and the first time having to hit someone. It was hit or be hit. It was certainly an emotional and heavy time for me. I guess a realization of what is to come.

In saying that, I believe in the kaupapa of Punch with Purpose, and what it aims to achieve for Charity groups who struggle, who may get part funding, and need to raise the difference to get through for our communities. It makes people aware of the seen and the unseen in work that is done in places such as The Hospice, and how special that mahi is.

My training program consists of 2 trainings per day, morning and night, and a sparring session on Saturday morning. I also ride my bike to work almost every day for exercise. I eat well, make whole food like homemade soups, nuts, fruit, wholemeal bread, rice, salads, and lots of protein from chicken eggs and meat.

Oh and I work during the week, and I volunteer at Otago Hospice on Saturday afternoons.

Sunday is my only free day during fight camp so it's all about me, I had a sauna and a massage yesterday, went for a walk with a good friend, and had lunch at the Esplanade. Thank you all for the opportunity to raise awareness and support for The Otago Hospice who have been a huge support in the past for my whanau. We appreciate you 💜 🙏
