“I will join 29 RB employees for a 2-week in Tanzania, focusing on the impact of Raleigh’s water, sanitation & hygiene (WASH) programming.

“Raleigh International is a sustainable development charity who harness the passion and energy of young people to effect positive change in sustainable development. Their programmes focus on providing access to safe water and sanitation, protecting vulnerable environments and building resilient communities.”
Problem:
Water contamination prevalent in Tanzania and therefore cholera outbreaks and diarrhoea transmission amongst school children are common because simple hygiene behaviours not practiced
Challenge:
School children are good agents at cascading healthy hygiene behaviours within the home – but recent evaluations demonstrate the indirect beneficiaries perceived that they are still not being positively influenced
Opportunity:
This issue is now on the national agenda – Government, other INGO’s, Project CLEAR – and there is a need to devise new behaviour change methodologies as well as create more effective monitoring & evaluation – insights leading to more impactful work not just for Raleigh but the whole WASH sector
“In June 2019, I will be participating in the RB Global Volunteer Challenge Programme, in partnership with Raleigh International. Before I leave, I am trying to raise USD$3,500 towards Raleigh’s work.”
“I will be joining 29 other RB employees to undertake a 2-week project in Tanzania, focusing on the impact of Raleigh’s water, sanitation & hygiene (WASH) programming. We will be driving positive and sustainable changes in hygiene behaviour among remote rural community members in Tanzania. Together, we will develop new methodologies to support school children to cascade safe hygiene behaviours learnt in school to their families in the home.”
