We're a group of girls entering the Spring Challenge 2015 in Wanaka raising money for the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter service.
Nelson / Tasman
The Chopper Chicks are two teams consisting of three girls each, aided by three support crew, entering the Spring Challenge all girl adventure race held in Wanaka on 26 September 2015. We are all keen trampers and mountain bikers and enjoy the many trails and National Parks throughout the region. It’s in these areas where many of the missions the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter responds to each year.
Each mission the helicopter responds to requires approximately $3,500 to cover the shortfall in funding required. The Chopper Chicks would like to put themselves in ‘credit’ for a mission each for the six girls entering the race. Whilst training over the months prior to the event, our goal is to fundraise $21,000 for the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter service, get fit, make great friends and most importantly, have fun. We are doing this for our family, friends and work colleagues and hope we don’t ever have to call on the service and use this ‘credit’.
We’re entering the Spring Challenge in Wanaka which is an event we can get our teeth into. It consists of rafting, mostly non-technical mountain biking, hiking mostly can be on and off trails, can contain rough ground to pass over, slippery stuff, cow poos, stream crossings. Navigation is intermediate level, map and compass knowledge needed and we are supposed to finish this between 6 to 10 hours!
