Alastair Gordon is going to Timor-Leste (East Timor) with VSA to help a local micro-finance company in one of the world's poorest countries.

Volunteer Service Abroad is sending me to Timor-Leste to assist the Timorese in developing their country. Would you be willing to help me in supporting Volunteer Service Abroad and the people of Timor-Leste? Timor-Leste is working to build a nation after decades of war and devastation (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_Timor). Their people have experienced the loss of a generation of experience, culture, and wealth, and New Zealand has been instrumental in helping this new country grow in independence and strength.
This time (it’s my second posting to Timor-Leste with VSA) I will be utilising my own business expereince to help a micro-finance company, Kaebuk, expand their services to remote farmers and micro-businesses. When people have acess to finance to grow their farms and businesses, they can improve all aspects of their lives, using their own skills and work. Your donations will make a significant impact in two ways:
1. Kaebauk provides small loans to the most impoverished remote farmers and micro-businesses, enabling them to educate their children, develop cash crops, and build climate-resilient homes.
2. You'll help VSA send more volunteers like me to Timor and the Pacific, placing New Zealanders with the experience needed right where they are needed most. We've been amazed by the professionalism and dedication of VSA, but recruiting and supporting volunteers in developing countries is expensive.
