Fundraising for Sir Peter Blake Charity Limited
Nationwide
Kia ora, my name is Emily and I am a first-year Environmental Science student at Canterbury University. My passion for the environment was nurtured at Cashmere High (Class of 2022) where I first got involved with BLAKE.
I am fortunate to have been selected to go on an expedition with BLAKE NZ to Doubtful Sound (Fiordland) this May. This project is a collaboration between numerous research organisations (including Otago Uni, GNS Science, and Ngāi Tahu) and will be a huge privilege to be working alongside scientists on a large-scale project like this in a largely secluded part of Aotearoa.
I will be participating in research to better understand our fjords and their carbon-capturing capabilities. Globally, around 18 million tonnes of organic carbon are buried in fjords each year, so it is vital to understand these better. Being able to be part of research like this is a long-term goal of mine, and will be life-changing.
I’m aiming to contribute $2,000 towards the cost of my participation in this expedition. On Saturday April 8th, I will be roller skating a half marathon (21.1km) to raise money for BLAKE. If anyone wants to sponsor me (and contribute to the ongoing opportunities provided by their leadership programmes) that would be awesome. Please feel free to share this page!
Many thanks,
Emily
