On Dec 3&4, I am going for a 24-hour solo world record of 277km on an indoor rower to raise funds for Wanaka's St John, Coastguard & LandSAR
Otago
I'm Jaime. I'm 42 years-old and I am shooting for a 24-Hour World Record. All I need to do is row 277,000 metres on an indoor rower, and I'll earn a spot in the record books (it's actually a list on a website). That's the driving distance from Wanaka to Dunedin or the flight time from New Zealand to London!
"Ugh" you say? Well, to make the task more appealing, I'll be doing it to raise money for Wanaka St John, Coastguard Wanaka and Wanaka Search and Rescue. Why these charities? Does indoor rowing trigger a lot of emergency call-outs? The reason is that these volunteers dedicate their lives to saving ours, and I really want to support them. I don't have their superhero or ninja skills, but I CAN row for a really really REALLY long time.
Any money I raise will be split evenly between the three charities. So far I've secured a promise to match all pledges up to $3000, so your donations will make a big difference!
I don't really want to do this alone, so I'm offering $100 to a charity or local club if you'll spin your wheels with me for an hour or more. You can row or bike; sorry, no potters.
I'll be set up in the Lake Wanaka Centre's Faulks Room on Saturday 3rd December and Sunday 4th December.
To book a time slot or make a donation, please email me at pbjhutter@gmail.com or post a message on this Givealittle page. Thanks for your support!
Update #1 - 14 October 14 October 2016
Many thanks to the early donors - even the anonymous ones. Training is going well; I did a 3-hour (40k) row on both Monday and Thursday this week. The town has generously offered the venue for free - thanks Queenstown Lakes District Council. Cheers!
Here's a bit of local press coverage ...

Sweet. Nice. Nice. Sweet.
Thanks to you both. Let me know if you want to do some rehab on the erg!
Thanks Z. I daydreamed of Chicago deep dish for much of the row.
