    Thank you so much for supporting this fundraiser and I’m absolutely delighted to let you know that the target has been reached! Thanks to your support the new Forest Health kit will be rolled out next year!

    I had a massive day on the trails. It was a tough adventure, with lots of climbing and challenging descents, over very technical terrain. The last few kilometres took a lot of mental willpower, but knowing that I was doing it for a great cause certainly helped 💚.

    Here’s some background on the kit in progress, and thank you again for your generous sponsorship of a kit;

    Thank you so much for your incredible support. I am delighted to let you know the target amount has nearly been raised! The Forest Health kit will definitely be a part of the House of Science's kit library for 2025, benefitting hundreds of children in over 45 Wellington schools, teaching them about how special our native forests are.

    In the last 3 months I've ran 384km with 9,120m of elevation gain, walked 263km with 5,113m of elevation gain and spent hours on strength, stability and stretching. When I stand at the start line, 6am on Saturday morning, my heart will be full of gratitude as I take on 50km of adventure through forest, streams, mud and lots of hills! When I get tired I'll be able to dig deep, knowing each step counts.

    Ngā mihi nui, Sarah

    (I'll post an update next week, after I've finished the event, but for now here's a photograph of part of the trail - through Norbett Creek Loop, in Kaitoke Regional Forest - I'll be simultaneously seeing orange triangles, whilst trying not to trip on tree roots!)

  • Three weeks to go and nearly two thirds of target reached!

    Thank you all so much for supporting House of Science Wellington. I'm delighted that, with your wonderful generosity, nearly two thirds of the funds needed have now been raised! It's looking more and more likely that a 'Forest Health' kit will be added to the House of Science Wellington library in early 2025!

    In just three weeks time I will be traversing the foothills of the Tararua ranges, through Kaitoke Regional Park, crossing streams and skipping over tree roots, navigating mud and many, many hills! In the past week I have had the opportunity to recce some small sections of the 50km that I'll be covering, and it's going to be an adventure! My main focus will be on staying upright!

    I've been posting some updates to my own Instagram page https://www.instagram.com/sarahleeuknz/.

    Thank you so much again for supporting this cause.

  • Back in Wellington & chasing vert!

    Thank you so much for your support to date. I’m back in Wellington and chasing vert in training! Today I ran 24km with 1,728m of vertical gain - felt tough at times, but your support helped me to keep going.

    Please consider sharing this page with your contacts, and hopefully I can raise enough for a Forest Health kit for House of Science Wellington! All donations make a difference!

    Thank you all so much for your generous donations to House of Science and helping to raise funds for a Forest Health kit for the Wellington branch.

    My training for the WAI2K 50km, on 23 November, is going reasonably well, despite being on the opposite side of the world till 19th October, seeing family. I’ve been fitting in hill runs as much as possible, but am looking forward to some decent long runs, with lots of vertical gain, when I’m back in Wellington!

    Thanks so much again for your support, it will keep me going when I’m climbing up all those forest trails (and trying not to twist an ankle on the steep descents!).

    Sarah
