Fundraising for Brain Tumour Support NZ
Wellington
My Mum, Susan Marjorie Johnstone, was diagnosed in April 2020 with a rare malignant brain tumour called Anaplastic Astrocytoma located in her left temporal lobe. She bravely battled this horrible tumour undergoing multiple surgeries, radiation sessions and chemotherapy but unfortunately her battle came to an end on the 21st November 2021.
Mum was an extremely intelligent women who loved to read, was a passionate primary school teacher at Witherlea School in Blenheim, absolutely loved the outdoors, and loved acting in local plays.
This was one of the most painful experiences of my life seeing my own mum lose her ability to read, talk and do what she loved in such short space of time. My Mum will always be remembered for her bubbly smile, witty humour, and her top tier baking.
Last year in January, my brother Shaun Johnstone and I ran the Auckland Half Marathon in memory of our beloved Mum and raised $5000 for Brain Tumour Support Charity NZ who do an amazing job at supporting people diagnosed with brain tumours.
This year, my best mate Noa Woolloff and I have decided to sign ourselves up for the Queenstown Full Marathon on the 18th November. This will be our first ever crack at running 42.2kms, we have been training bloody hard and are very excited to be fundraising for this amazing charity.
Any contributions, whether that's the price of your weekly coffee or beers with the boys, would go a long way for supporting more New Zealanders to beat the odds with rare brain tumours.
