Charlotte and Julie run for the Taranaki Westpac Rescue Chopper

Taranaki

The month of May is Westpacs main fundraising month for the Westpac Rescue Chopper.

So, on the 2nd of May, I will be completing my first ever half marathon, and mum will be doing a 10km run at the Southern Lakes half marathon in Wanaka, and we are doing this to fundraise funds for the chopper.

All funds we raise will stay in Taranaki and will be paid directly to the Taranaki chopper.

The chopper is something very close to our hearts, as before Grandad passed, he was picked up from his remote farm in the chopper and flown to ICU.

The chopper didn’t save his life, but it did give us the precious gift of time. It allowed everyone in our family and his close friends to say our goodbyes, which is conversations we all cherish and will hold dearly for the rest of our lives. That last conversation wouldn’t have been possible if he had to wait for an ambulance.

Mum and I both work for Westpac, and we’re incredibly lucky to be part of an organisation that supports such an amazing cause like the Rescue Chopper. Your support truly means the world to us, and we’re so grateful to be able to fundraise for something so important to our community.

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
