Fundraising for Supporting Cara Cameron through her cancer fight
Auckland
Around this time 4 years ago I put the idea to Cara and James to tackle a trail half marathon, not really thinking they would both shrug their shoulders and say yeah sure lets bloody do it!
What a grand idea. . . What we were in for was ruthless! As beautiful as the landscape is on Aotea Great Barrier Island, the climbs were incredibly gruelling and unforgiving to say the least.
I mean James and I had done a few laps of Riddell Road without stopping in preparation so we thought it would be sweet.
We started off together (pictured) and after a few immediate hills my small bladder got the better of me and I had to stop for #1’s. James and Cara kept chugging.
I always narrowly had them in my sights, but eventually could only see James. After what felt like the journey to the fires of Mordor I managed to pass James - He was hobbling about 12km in with a busted knee but assured me he was fine to keep going. . I would never catch Cara, she was a machine!!
Fast forward a few years and Cara has another mission to tackle, one that this time, she didn’t have the choice to endure. But she has already proven she has the same determination and spirit to supress the nasties that come with Cancer and Live the Life the she deserves !
On October 9th I’ll again travel to the hills of Mordor (Aotea) to run my first full marathon for Cara and her family's fight against this horrible disease.
Please, if you can, a small donation to this page or Cara’s Give a Little page would be hugely appreciated to support her much needed unfunded treatment.
