This year I hobbled round the 10.5k course at the Lion Foundation Rotorua Marathon.

I am not a runner and it was hard.

If I can raise $2000 I will do it again in 2017; $4000 and I'll do the half and $6,000 it'll be the...gulp... full marathon. Make me suffer! This one is personal...

Graeme Simpson's involvement (page creator)

In 2012, I went through 7 gruelling weeks of radio and chemotherapy for throat cancer. I was one of the lucky ones. Although I lost over 25% of my body weight ending up at 52kg, the treatment was a success. Recuperation was hard, but eventually I got back on my bike and got on with life. The Cancer Society was a big part of this return to a new normality. More recently the Aratika Cancer Trust in Rotorua has played a major role in helping me make some big changes in my life - diet, mindfulness and attitude. The 2017 Rotorua Marathon is on 06.05 - five years from the halfway point of my treatment... The money raised will be split between these two wonderful organisations. Thanks to QE Health Wellness and Rehabilitation Centre in Rotorua for gym programme, yoga...and probably Physio...
