Running the Auckland marathon to raise funds for The Rock Vets Niue.
Auckland
Hi friends!
We have signed up to run the Auckland Marathon on November 1. We are doing it to raise funds for an incredible cause close to our hearts: The Rock Vets Trust.
The Rock Vets team is dedicated to supporting the animals and community of Niue — a small island of around 1,400 people with *no access to veterinary care at all*. Everything they do is powered by volunteers.
As a veterinarian, Becky has been lucky enough to travel to Niue with the team before, and will be heading back again in next March. Laura is the incredible head nurse at Pakuranga Vets and is looking forward to heading to Niue for the first time in 2027. It’s an experience that really stays with you — seeing first hand the difference even basic veterinary care can make.
The Rock Vets travel to Niue once or twice a year to provide **free desexing, vaccinations, parasite control, and urgent medical and surgical care**. They also support local farmers with livestock care and help manage feral animal populations — protecting native wildlife, improving animal welfare, and making the island safer for both locals and tourists.
All of this is funded entirely by donations. The vets and nurses give up their annual leave to volunteer, but costs like flights, accommodation, medications, and equipment all need to be covered.
If you’re able to donate — no matter how small — it truly makes a difference. Your support helps ensure this vital work can continue.
Thank you so much 💕
