Take a second to take a breath in. For children with Cystic Fibrosis, this is a constant battle to being able to take a breath.
Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a respiratory disease that causes severe damage to the lungs, digestive system and other organs. Having CF means that the cells that usually produce mucus, sweat and digestive juices are compromised. it means that instead of secreting thin and fluids, it becomes thick and sticky.
There is hope. A new treatment called Trikafta is available in the United States and is being hailed as a 'lifeline' for anyone suffering from CF. The only catch is it cost anywhere upwards of $430,000NZD for a years supply. Trikafta has been proven to improve lung functions by up to 50%.
I will be shaving my head when the donations get to $1,000. I believe that shaving my head is the least I can do to help spread the awareness.
Starting on the 26th of July, I will also be running 5km per day to raise donation to help these amazing families in our communities gain awareness about the new treatments that could help better their lives.
Any donation is graciously appreciated as it can help Cystic Fibrosis New Zealand get this new treatment to families in New Zealand.
