Running for Dad and the Cranford Hospice

$5,530 donated

65km of running in one month to celebrate my Dad’s 65th birthday. Honouring him & the special people who cared for him in his final days 🧡

Hawke's Bay

During the months of July/August I will be fundraising for the Hawkes Bay Cranford Hospice. Throughout the 10th July - 10th August, I will be running 65km (approx. 16.25km a week).

Last year my Dad, David MacCallum (or D-boy as he liked to be known) was unexpectedly diagnosed with cancer, given a very short life expectancy, and 6 days later he passed away surrounded by love and family.

The Cranford Hospice provided Dad with an immense amount of love and care within these last 6 days of his life and also provided our family with support during this time and on-going. Dad’s hospice nurse even happened to be with us and him when he suddenly passed during one of her visits with Dad on the 18th May.

I have created this givealittle page and would appreciate any donations from all of you wonderful people.

The 10th August would have been Dad’s 65th birthday hence the time frame and the amount of km’s.

I will keep you all updated on my journey via my Instagram page (link attached) and am very much looking forward to the 10th of August to give my little legs a rest, have many many many gin martini’s to toast my amazing Dad on his birthday and to donate heaps (🤞🏼🤞🏼) of money to an amazing cause.

Thank you all!  10 August 2021

Celebrating Dad’s life today is made even more special and a little less sad knowing that we were able to donate over $5,500.00 to the Cranford Hospice.

I started this morning with a meeting with Abbie from the Cranford Hospice. Our conversation was about Dad’s story and what motivated me to fundraise for this incredible cause. Fundraising for the Hospice was a no brainer after seeing the selfless love and care Dad’s hospice nurse, gave him during his last days and right up until his last breath. The whole team not only supported Dad but also our whole family. Within hours of Dad’s diagnosis the Hospice were in contact with him and they were there to guide us through our journey over the next 6 days, during a time where we were completely all over the place. We were offered access to a grief counsellor, we’ve received cards and messages after Dad’s passing, the Hospice made a stressful and traumatic time that little bit more easy on us all. The donation’s you all gave and that we were able to make today in Dad’s name, means that the Cranford Hospice in Hawkes Bay can continue to provide this support to other people and other families during this difficult time.

I can not thank each and every one of you beautiful, kind, amazing, generous human’s enough for your donations and your ongoing messages of love and support!

Happy 65th birthday, boy. Wish you were here ❤️
