    Hi everyone,

Thank you for the donations for a good cause. I am super stoked to reach $2,000!

Sorry for the post-race silence. It has been a tough few days to unpack what occurred on Saturday. It was a great morning with a 4 am start and things were moving well as I ticked off aid stations. I joined another runner from Australia, Matt, and we worked together sharing stories and our "why" and the miles flew by.

As the sun started to make its presence we were approaching a long stretch of an open country road with no shade we were exposed to the elements. We reached the aid at 65km, this is where we met our support crew for the first time it was a great relief to see the smiling faces of my kids and my awesome wife.

However, at Buried Village (which was the last aid station), I was in pretty bad shape. The 16km section in the heat had cooked me, entering the aid station with full body cramps and nausea. After a conversation with the aid station medic they advised me not to continue because I would be damaging my body. So the decision was made to drop out. Honestly, one of the hardest things to do because I felt as though I was letting people down.

Thank you again really stoked with all the support for this fundraiser to help those in need of mental health support!

    Thanks & until next time.......

    Adam

  • 7 days to go

    Hi All,

With 7 days to go all the training is done now it is time to rest and recover after having climbed 10000m and running 505km in January. At times during training, I would slip into a daydream about the act/art of running and why running drives people to run long distances up mountains in all sorts of weather. I seem to come back to the same conclusion, well my conclusion is to feel alive in discomfort. I am grateful I have a mind and body that allows me to be in discomfort/pain for a brief period and I can return to baseline usually after a recovery steak and cheese pie.

In some way, those daydreams are the ethos behind the fundraising effort. To provide resources for people who need help to recentre them to baseline.

I am grateful for the funds raised so far! Thank you everyone! Feel free to share with your networks.

The nervous energy is building with a handy helping of excitement. If you would like to follow along there is an app you can download. All you have to do is search Tarawera Ultramarathon on your relevant app store. Once you have the app search my name in the athlete section and hit follow you will get updates on how I am tracking.

    Thanks

    Adam

  • 19 days to go!

      29 January 2024

    Hi everyone

19 days to go! The nerves have started to ramp up. The training has been pretty good apart from a meltdown where I had to drop out of a 6-hour run after 2.5 hours 🤦‍♂️ due to mistakes of not drinking enough and not running to the conditions. At the time I was pretty annoyed and I got down myself with lots of self-doubt. I got back up by refocusing on my WHY and this fundraising effort brought me much-needed motivation to stay positive keep training and let go of what happened. I am sure I will need it come the 17th Feb when it is cold and dark and my legs are telling me to stop.

If you are interested in tracking my progress there's an app you can download. Depending on what phone you use google will guide you to the right app store. Just Google the Tarawera Ultra-Trail app.

    That's all for now

    Thanks

    Adam

Happy New Year everyone. I hope you all had a good rest and recharge your batteries.

The weather has been great which is perfect for training. I have been spending a lot of time going up and down Rangituhi (A mountain in Porirua).

If you are wondering what the 100 miles course looks like I have attached the course map. Rotorua is a special place and the race organisers have put up a short YouTube video that gives you a sense of what the course is like and the landscape people will be running through.

Again thank you for kind your donations

    Adam

I hope everyone is doing well and ready for their Christmas break.

Training has ramped up clocking in 92km last week! I am thankful for all the donations they provide me the extra motivation to head out the door when it is gale-force winds and rain like last weekend.

The picture was taken a couple of weeks ago on a training run from the summit of Rangituhi Maunga. The islands in the background are Mana and Kāpiti islands. I am grateful to have this in the backyard.
