Fundraising for I Am Hope Foundation

Camborne, Porirua

Kia Ora,

My name is Adam and I am putting my obsession for running to good use to fundraise for I AM HOPE. I am tackling the Tarawera 100-mile race on 17th February 2024. During such an event, there will be highs and lows and they are all part of the journey of ultra running. Just like in life, there will be moments when we thrive and falter however some people sit in a low state for a period of time and they reach out for help. However, in New Zealand, the resources to help are very stretched as the demand for mental health support has increased.

So please consider supporting this fundraiser to provide much-needed resources for those in need of mental health support through I AM HOPE https://www.iamhope.org.nz/

Thanks

Adam

Thank you for your support!  23 February 2024

Hi everyone,

Thank you for the donations for a good cause. I am super stoked to reach $2,000!

Sorry for the post-race silence. It has been a tough few days to unpack what occurred on Saturday. It was a great morning with a 4 am start and things were moving well as I ticked off aid stations. I joined another runner from Australia, Matt, and we worked together sharing stories and our "why" and the miles flew by.

As the sun started to make its presence we were approaching a long stretch of an open country road with no shade we were exposed to the elements. We reached the aid at 65km, this is where we met our support crew for the first time it was a great relief to see the smiling faces of my kids and my awesome wife.

However, at Buried Village (which was the last aid station), I was in pretty bad shape. The 16km section in the heat had cooked me, entering the aid station with full body cramps and nausea. After a conversation with the aid station medic they advised me not to continue because I would be damaging my body. So the decision was made to drop out. Honestly, one of the hardest things to do because I felt as though I was letting people down.

Thank you again really stoked with all the support for this fundraiser to help those in need of mental health support!

Thanks & until next time.......

Adam
