Well, all good things must come to an end right? It's quite hard writing this last update as this journey ends here. There will be so many more adventures, some may be longer or harder but none will ever be as brutally raw and heart felt as this. The support has just been overwhelming and the fact that I was backed by all of you meant there was no turning back (even when I started getting a cold two days before the event which has now fully hit me haha). I'm not going to lie, it was hard but no where near as hard as I thought it would be because you all believed in me. The last 4km were killer because I didn't sign up for those, I only signed up for 50! haha. But you all got me through it and the buzz from busting past that $5000 goal just had me in a happy crazy kind of trance on the day! From the bottom of my (tired) heart.. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! You've made a difference, in a pooches life, in my life so THANK YOU xxx
And that's all I have to say about that (Forest Gump)
Can I just say how super proud I am of you! I couldn't dream of running that far, that takes pure grit and determination. Not only have you done something amazing for the Dogs but you have inspired everyone around you!
I say Jolly with a lot of sarcasm haha. It wasn't all bad but just involved a heck of a lot of training, a lot of really long runs, my longest being around 5.5 hours, during the humidity and beaming sun but I learnt a lot about myself and how I will better tackle the pain of run day. My longest run was 36km and that was gruelling so add 16.7km on top of that, I'm a bit anxious (yes, I found out the run isn't 50km exact, its bloody 52.7km - feeling a bit ripped off haha). However, I AM going to cross that finish line because you know what?..... something very special and amazing happened last night and I am in tears right now writing this - WE MADE IT! We got to $5000. On the last day of January some epic cool people made some huge donations that got me over my first finish line. Now all that is left is the physical finish line of the race. If you are receiving this update it is because YOU have shown how caring you are and how you are willing to give up some luxuries in your life to do GOOD. You all have something in common and you all hold a piece of my heart. I will think about each and every one of you as I'm busting through those trails on the 17th. So, now for the stats, 241.7km ran in the month of January, an average of 60.4km per week, the longest being 36km and exploring some new trails including the mighty Riverhead Forest.
So again, from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU. I'll be in touch for one more update after the race. Keep being cool!
What a month, trying to juggle Xmas, birthdays, school ceremonies and parties, and, of course, the training!!!! We made it though! Me and Mylar did a total 216.4km in December (well Mylar on most of the runs - not the super long ones). A big achievement for Mylar was her first half marathon (by total mistake because I got lost in the mountain bike trails) but she handled it well, had some swims and drinks in the river then a big breakfast and treats waiting for her at Nanny's. We are so close to the 4K mark and I hope we can smash out 5K by the time the run comes. Thanks guys for all your support, will update again at the end of Jan (if I survive the training that is haha).
Another hectic month, really starting to dig deep now. This month I've covered 179.5km, the majority on the trails, I've run just over 23 hours and the body is feeling it. Its been totally interesting too, with 'highlights' being a ghetto cat attack, a fun run with some colleagues at Auckland Eye, the discovery of a fairy garden in the middle of one of my long runs in the rain, finding a dog on one of my walks and then inheriting him for the week watching him slowly trash my house and take over our hearts simultaneously and also a horrible run in the Waitakere ranges that made me question my life choices multiple times that day. I'm scared about December and January with what is coming and I try to avoid looking ahead at my running schedule because I want to cry. You are all keeping me going though, backing me, supporting the dogs and I keep that in the back of my head when I'm struggling on runs that are taking over three hours to complete now! Thank you all again. Hopefully I don't die in December! haha.
You are all amazing, with your combined efforts you are helping me chip away at that $5000 dream goal. I thought it was too ambitious when I started the fundraiser 11 weeks ago, but all you awesome people are proving me wrong! Almost $3,000 in 11 weeks! Phenomenal. It all certainly adds up and no donation is too small and comes from the biggest hearts, so from the bottom of my heart… THANK YOU! This has been the first official month of my training for Tawawera and I can tell you…. Its not easy! I’ve had to change my runs to running hills and trails and it’s a whole new kettle of fish, the heart rate soars, the calves and quads burn and my shoes get hella dirty haha! This month has been pretty cool with running the Auckland Half Marathon – the highlight being running over the bridge and actually feeling strong doing it, thanks to all the hill training! So this month 154.1km was ran by me, through bush, mud, city and street! Bring on November! Thanks again for all your amazing support. Just blown away!
Dreams are coming true! We are almost at $2,000! This is incredible! All I have to do now is raise about $150 a week until the event! As we move into October (finally) I am now starting my official training plan for the Tawawera Ultra Marathon yeeeehaaaa! For every km I run per week I am going to add $1 to my fundraiser to really boost things along. I toned it back a bit in September to be able to let my body relax a bit before I do some pretty hard training sessions, well I thought I did anyway but still managed 167.3km over that month. I guess its kind of addictive (and a good way to get away from the kids haha). I did my longest road run this month of 26km which I was pretty proud of and also did my longest trail run of 22.5km so I guess it was a pretty cool month. Yay for October! Thanks everyone, I appreciate you all xxx
Wow. What a month. I'm absolutely blown away to be able to raise over one grand for saving hope with all your generous donations! People like you are awesome and make such a difference. In August I managed to clock up 183.5km (the majority of it with my mate Mylar by my side) with almost 30 hours of active exercise and training during that time. It's been a hard month and September will be the month to pull back a bit before the training for my actual event starting at the beginning of October and will involve at least two trail runs a week eeeeekkkkk. Once again, I appreciate every single one of you. Thank you so much!
