Please help Sophia and the NZ Spinal Trust by supporting us for our 5km at the Auckland Marathon.
Auckland
Hi, I'm Sam Durrant and I'm a Fire Fighter in the New Zealand Air Force and a keen Triathlete and Multisporter.
On October 29th, I am taking part in the 5km Run held in conjunction with the Auckland Marathon with my friend Sophia Malthus.
Last November, Sophia was training to be an Apprentice Jockey when she fell from a racehorse, injuring her spinal cord. As a result, she is now a C4/5 tetraplegic with no sensation or motor skills from the collarbone down.
Running and rolling our way around the course will be a heap of fun (more so for Sophia, as I'll be pushing her while she enjoys the views).
Being a competitive person myself, I've set a goal for us to go under 30 minutes which means we will need to go full gas!!
We would like to raise some funds for her but also the NZ Spinal Trust who have been a massive part of her rehab and recovery to date.
20% of the funds raised will go to the NZ Spinal Trust and the rest to Sophia to help towards her ongoing costs of rehabilitation, treatments etc
Any donation big or small is greatly appreciated!
I am involved as I want to help Sophia and others in her position get the treatment in order for them to have the best possible chance of a full recovery!
