Fundraising to provide support for cancer sufferers by running 250km in the Gobi Desert

The Gobi March is an ultramarathon event that takes place in north western China at the outer edges of the Gobi Desert. With 100 other competitors, I will be running 250km over 6 stages, averaging 42km with the longest stage 80km and the shortest 15km. Competitors must carry all their own food and equipment in backpacks, with a tent and water kindly provided.

The Gobi March course is located in the Hami region in Xinjiang Province, China. It takes competitors across varied terrain at the edge of the Gobi Desert and is surrounded by some of the most spectacular scenery in China, including the mighty Tianshan Mountains. The course will take competitors across green grasslands and alpine-like scenery but also some rugged terrain and sand dunes. Competitors will traverse dirt tracks, dry riverbeds, valleys, plains and farmlands in areas alive with local culture. Temperatures may range from 0 to 40degC.
