Advocating a voice for education, change and the importance of caring for animals and their welfare.

Whakatane, Bay Of Plenty

Harmony & Hope Animal Rescue Trust rescues cats and dogs, arranges foster homes, saves animals from the pound and being euthanised, organises travel to reach their foster home and to their forever home! They provide foster families with food, bedding and pens. H&H is reliant on foster families to give these animals a second chance at life, ready for their forever home!

During 2020 lockdown I saw a FaceBook page advertise about all the neglected, dumped and unwanted cats and dogs in my home town, Whakatane. I messaged Harmony & Hope Animal Rescue Trust about volunteering to foster puppies.

We started with two puppies (Coco and Birdie), once they were adopted we fostered two more (Cleo and Charlie) and then four puppies at once (Storm, Hulk, Sky and Rain).

After this my whanau fostered two more puppies, however we didn't give one up for adoption (Bear) as she was a perfect fit for our whanau and got along well with our older dog!

Fostering gave our family a great sense of community, pride and also positivity. It is well-known that animals provide a therapeutic benefit for owners, and fostering provides an ideal opportunity for people of all ages to gain that benefit and all the positives that come with pets, and doing some good for your community.

Some people may not have a suitable lifestyle or living arrangement to foster, so donations are gratefully accepted to ensure support can be offered to fostering families, and to assist with veterinary care, immunisations.
