Selwyn House School Year 5 - 8 'Fountain of Peace NZ - Walk with a Purpose' 2024

$5,195 of $4,500 goal
Given by 63 generous donors in around 3 months

Fundraising for the construction of a much needed spring well for 50 families to have access to clean water in Uganda.

Christchurch, Canterbury

On Friday 5th of April 2024, some of the Selwyn House School year 5 - 8 girls will be setting off to 'Walk with a Purpose' raising funds to make a significant and life saving difference in the lives of others.

These Selwyn House School students are passionate about helping others and this year have decided to raise funds towards the construction of a much needed spring well, which will provide over 50 families access to clean water, in the extremely impoverished area of Kyenjojo District in Uganda. Pictured above is the current site where these families collect their water for drinking, cooking and cleaning, obviously creating a huge risk for water borne diseases.

The girls will start walking a 10 km route to Selwyn House School at 6 am and will arrive to school in time to start the school day. The walk is expected to take approximately 2 hours and represents the distance some children in Uganda walk to collect water and to and from school each day.

The heart of this Selwyn House School Year 5 - 8 'Fountain of Peace NZ - Walk with a Purpose' is that the girls can come together for something much bigger than themselves, to make a lasting and life saving difference in the lives of 50 families. Together with your support they would love to reach their goal to get this spring well built.

Great news!  24 July 2024

Just this past week we heard news from Uganda that the spring well Izzy and her Selwyn House School community raised funds for, has been completed and handed over to the local community. I am SO happy to be able to share this photo we received of these children collecting fresh clean drinking water from the newly constructed spring well. Over 50 families in this community now have this ability to collect clean water for drinking, cooking, and washing. What a difference this has made in their lives.

I want to say a HUGE thank you to Izzy for putting her hand up to be our student ambassador, and for choosing to help raise awareness and support for this much needed spring well. Also to all of the wonderful Selwyn House School community, family and friends who got in behind Izzy and her mum Kim, to make this possible. To all of the walkers who got up very early to 'Walk with a Purpose' on the 5th of April we are so incredibly grateful to you all! And importantly to all who sponsored this fundraising walk through your generous donations - thank you so very, very much for bringing hope and life to this community of 50 families. Your generosity has bought transformation to this community that is life changing for everyone living there. You are all change makers.

With thanks and gratitude,

Tania Sharr

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
