Help us give back as a thank you for the care and support of our beloved friend Sherry and her family during her final weeks.

Waikato

Sherry Walker was not only our dear friend and colleague, she was a greatly loved wife, mum, sister and aunty. Sherry lived her life in happiness with love and completeness from the beautiful family her and her beloved husband created. They lived, loved, travelled and had many more dreams for the future. Tragically their dreams for a happily ever after retirement were cut short when Sherry was suddenly diagnosed with bowel cancer in May this year. With this diagnosis came the shocking news that the cancer was stage four and had already spread to her liver and stomach lining, therefore rendering it terminal.

Sherry mad the brave decision to not have chemotherapy and to enjoy the time she had left surrounded by her loving family During this time Sherry received fabulous care and support from the staff at Hospice Waikato. They were also instrumental in supporting her husband and children during what would have been the most difficult time in their lives.

Sadly, we lost our Sherry on Sunday 11th August. A couple of her workmates from Waikato District Council, where Sherry worked for over 10 years, have decided to hold a ‘Shave for Sherry’. We will shave our heads to honour our beautiful friend and to also to raise money for Hospice Waikato. This organisation plays such an important role in many people’s lives during their toughest times. All funds raised will help provide palliative care to thousands of patients and their families in the Waikato, King Country and Thames/Coromandel regions.

The ‘Shave for Sherry’ will take place at our workplace in Ngaruawahia on Friday 18th October. Photos will be available on our council Facebook page.
