Hi everyone and welcome to our Shave To Save page!

For those who don't know me, i'm Lana.

Myself and two incredibly brave young girls - Asha and Milla Reid are shaving our hair off on Saturday 4th May to raise money for an awesome cause which is going to help young Kiwi's who are going through a rough time by providing FREE counselling without having to wait extreme amounts of time.

I'm sure most of you would have heard by now about the Key To Life Charitable Trust/I Am Hope - they are a community peer support group, aiming to forever change the way New Zealanders think, act and feel about mental health and suicide. They are committed to their long term goal of a zero suicide rate in New Zealand.

The current “harden up, stay staunch and let’s not talk about it” attitude towards anyone with a mental illness or who is having thoughts of suicide is a major part of the problem. We also believe that without positive attitudinal societal change that the 668 New Zealanders who completed suicide in 2018 will be joined by a similar number this year. These figures can no longer be ignored or swept under the carpet by those who champion the ‘stay silent on suicide’ mantra currently in effect in Aotearoa.

I could almost guarantee you all know someone who is currently or has gone through a battle with their Mental Health. It is a HUGE part of our lives and we need to be talking more and lose the stigma around Mental Health that far too many people still have in New Zealand.
