Shave for Love

$2,170 donated

I'm shaving my hair for two awesome charities - Sands Rodney and Hibiscus Hospice.

Auckland

If you are stopping by to meet me and want to know why I’m shaving my locks then grab your cup of tea and relax.

I’m Debbie Greenwood, partner, daughter, Mama of 3 boys, creator of Sew in Joy with a desire to shave my head and raise some funds for two great causes – Sands Rodney and Hibiscus Hospice.

How did I get to this point? My hair greyed whilst at primary school - for over 30 years I have been colouring my hair. Why? Great question – I hadn’t really stopped to ask myself this until recently. Is it not “acceptable” to have grey hair in your teens, your 20’s, your 30’s? So here I am in my 40’s finally embracing my grey hair. And rather than watch it grow out I said to my partner “how about I shave my hair and raise some funds for something I’m passionate about”? Naturally Simon said “YEAH”!!

The next step was which charity to raise funds for. I’m an emotional, passionate chick – how could I choose just one thing to raise money for? I asked my friends and my customers to try and “sway” me into something in particular. There were two charities that I thought about as I went to bed at night and again when I woke in the morning.

I know and understand the challenges and heartbreaks mothers can experience. I also know the absolute joy and delight of having three little lads in my world. I cannot imagine the grief parents go through when a much wanted child does not arrive or is taken too soon. Sands provide support to parents who have experienced the death of a baby at any stage during pregnancy, as a baby or infant. My first charity is Sands Rodney.

My second charity is Hibiscus Hospice. This one is close to my heart as it is to so many. My Mum is a breast cancer survivor, I have volunteered within a hospice and my Dad is presently undergoing treatment for cancer. Having volunteered within a hospice environment I loved the respect they showed for each individual. The Hospice provides care for the whole person.

So on Saturday 14th February (yes, it’s Valentine’s Day) I’m set for a head shaving! I’m excited and ask that you make whatever donation you are presently able to and please, please take the time to share my page so that others may give a little too.

I’m shaving for love - please help me to help others.

Eternally grateful, Debbie

PS Location and time for the shaving to be confirmed – yes, it will be public and if there is anyone that wishes to join me to help raise funds too that would be fabulous!
