Fundraising for Life Matters Suicide Prevention Trust

Dunedin, Otago

Sorry about the title, ifyaknowyaknow the sense of humour, and Jay would find it funny.

It has been over 22 months since my little brother died by suicide, at 22, on a Wednesday in October.

As September is suicide awareness month, I am fundraising and will shave my hair on October 1st (a Wednesday). Plus, I'm not drinking for all of September and October; if you know me, you know this is crazy and probably the longest I will've gone without a single drop of alcohol since I turned 18:))

Aotearoa has some of the worst mental health and suicide statistics of any developed country. Culturally, we still hold huge stigmas when it comes to talking about mental health and suicide. This is especially true for men and young men.

I hope this serves to create a conversation. The hardest ones are the usually the most important.

My experience in losing someone close to me through suicide is deeply painful and personal, and sadly so many people have their own story.

Please donate if you can. Life Matters have been engaging in some really important mahi in suicide prevention, counselling and support.
