Phoenix Belly Dance school, with local Auckland dancers will be performing on 13th May to raise funds for The North Shore Women's Shelter

Auckland

The Shimmy Mob is back in Auckland for 2017! Dancers from all over Auckland are coming together to celebrate World Belly Dance Day – and raise funds in support of a truly worthy cause – Women’s Shelters.

World Belly Dance Day, Saturday May 13th, is internationally recognized in the Belly Dance community with events happening all over the world in 172 cities! And on this day in Auckland, local dancers and dance school, Phoenix Belly Dance, will be performing at various locations around Auckland to raise funds for the North Shore Women's Centre.

Shimmy Mob, a "Flash Mob" type event, is the largest event of its kind by the number of geographical territories covered in one day, creating awareness and raising funds for Women's and Children's shelters in participating communities. Dancers from around the world learn the same choreography, receive an official Shimmy Mob T-shirt, and perform the piece on World Belly Dance Day, 13th May.

Funds raised via Shimmy Mob will be donated to abused women and children shelters throughout the world. A percentage of the profits made from selling the official T-shirts goes towards Shimmy Mob's selected charity.

Auckland based dancer, Candice Frankland, is the team leader coordinating the efforts for all the local dancers joining forces to raise funds for the North Shore Women’s Centre. Phoenix Belly Dance is sponsoring rehearsal venues and 100% of Funds raised from crowdfunding and flashmob collections will also go directly to the North Shore Women's Centre.

About the North Shore Women's Centre:

For 25 years, the North Shore Womens Centre has delivered high quality services to vulnerable women and their children, especially for those experiencing domestic abuse in the community. Their services are free or low cost and include: free legal clinic, family support service, low cost counselling, clothing exchange, and an information and referral service.

They also offer a range of courses and services including school holiday programmes for young women, massage, healthy eating, Tai-Chi, creative art, and drop-in and telephone services. The North Shore Women’s Centre is funded by various philanthropic trusts and Child Youth and Family. Funding programmes that benefit women and their families in our community is an on-going challenge, however, and all donations are gratefully received.
