A sponsorship fundraiser for one year of sobriety, in exchange for donations to Women's Refuge NZ and Asylum Seekers Support Trust, Aotearoa
Northland
Tēnā koutou 🖤
One year ago today (January 4th) I promised myself 12 months of having no alcohol, as I no longer felt safe when intoxicated. Alcohol was an overused and tired way for me to manage huge social anxiety, and that relationship was compounded and complicated by having experienced a few particular incidents with former partners or friends that involved alcohol and resulted in physical, psychological and sexual violence. While I feel that I could confidently re-address this relationship now, I will be going another year alcohol free in an attempt to raise funds.
Sobriety has helped me to work through PTSD and general anxiety - it has really been a practice of providing safety to myself, and I have had the opportunity to reflect on the importance of this. We all have a right to safety in our minds and environments 🌼
I am starting this Givealittle page, if you wish to 'sponsor' my second year of sobriety. Half of what is raised by January 4th 2022 I will give to Asylum Seekers Support Trust Auckland, and half to @womensrefugenz Women’s Refuge New Zealand. These two organisations do vital mahi, and provide safety within our communities where it is needed by vulnerable people.
Any donation will be hugely appreciated, whether big or small. I will also be donating 20% of any money made through sales of my art over the course of this year. I am an illustrative artist who works on a private commission basis. If you are interested in contributing in this way, see examples of my work at @darryinn on Instagram and send me a message :)
To ease one another’s suffering where we can feels necessary. Ngā mihi nui, kia kaha 🌞
Every person has a right to their psychological, emotional and physical safety.
