With the help of many friends leading and participating in different pujas over the 24 hours, I made it to the end! It was a wonderful community experience and thanks to all our supporters we raised close to $6,000! A massive thank you to everyone who helped in so many ways (soup, chocolate, coffee, napping next to me, drumming to keep me awake, being willing to read the Bodhicaryavatara at 3am and so on...) It was fun. I reckon we should do it again some time.

Thanks to everyone for your support so far. The pujas and readings are all lined up ready to go after a decent lunch. I'm not sure about the live stream plan. Might be a bit much admin to juggle, but we'll see how the early afternoon pans out. A friend just sent me an email with this very useful teaching: "Mental states have no inherent existence - anatta, empty." I think I'll write it out and keep it in front of me for the 24 hours. Hope to see some of you at one or more of the pujas (if you're in Auckland, of course)! Check the ABC website for the programme and timings.

And over $3,000 contributed - amazing! Thanks to friends near and far. People have asked if I've been training for this event. I suppose I have in a way - for the last 15 years or so of coming to the Buddhist centre. An act of devotion just seemed like the perfect fundraiser. Renovating the centre itself is an act of devotion to the ideal of Enlightenment, to the community and to the Dharma. I have Akasasri, Vikasini, Vajrasarasi, Karunajoti, Dhiramuni, Padmapushpa and Vimoksajyoti lined up to help lead portions of the 24 hours in case my voice is down to a whisper. And I've been wearing in a pair of comfortable track pants for some time now, so I think I've got this. (Ask me again at about 4am on Sunday...)

  • Support is shored up for those dangerous early morning hours

      1 October 2024

Being something of a night owl, those dangerous hours of 5am to 8am, when I'm at my sleepiest, are likely to be the most challenging. So I'm delighted that friends like Vajrasarasi, Karunajoti, Dhiramuni and Padmapushpa have offered to practice alongside me on the Sunday morning. I've also had a request from Matthew, a good friend at the ABC, to join in for 18-19 hours of the pujathon - brilliant!
