Starving for compassion - 140 hour famine

  • 41 Hours

      7 April 2017

Hi everyone, I want to say a huge thank you for the donations and encouragement I've received so far, really blown away! I'm 42 hours in and my stomachs been rumbling away, a bit of extra effort getting up this morning. Only 98 hours to go... This morning I was reminded why this appeal is so important. Reading today's news paper I came across an article titled "Refugees report brutalities" - it described the horrific killings of 17 civilians caught amidst the civil war in South Sudan, the same country where famine has been announced. Roughly 1,700 South Sudanese are fleeing as refugees into Uganda each day, and the aid workers on the ground need all the support they can get to provide the basics: food, water, medicine and hope for the future. For those of us striving to love God and love others, I am also reminded of the words of John the Baptist in Luke 3. The crowds asked him "What then shall we do?" He answered "Whoever has two tunics is to share with him who has none. Whoever has food is to do likewise." Here in NZ we have an abundant supply of food and possessions, lets consider it a privilege to share with those who really need it. Thanks again, Ollie
