Participating in Step Up for Ovarian Cancer
Nationwide
Every 48 hours a woman dies from ovarian cancer and almost every day a woman is diagnosed with ovarian cancer. This could be your mother, sister, girlfriend, wife or daughter. This is why I am taking part in Step Up in September to show women they're not alone and raise crucial funds for awareness, advocacy and research.
I have read that fighting ovarian cancer is like running a marathon through quicksand. I am going to run 50 kilometres at the Tauranga Marathon on September 19th. Any donations to this wonderful cause would be greatly appreciated. You could choose to donate a dollar amount e.g., $5, $10, or $20. You could sponsor a particular kilometre (and I promise to think about you while I run that kilometre) or you could donate an amount for each kilometre (e.g, 50c per kilometre).
Thank you for your support 2 November 2021
Hi everyone! I managed to run the 50k on Sunday the 24th of October in some pretty miserable conditions (wind and rain). We finished in 5:28 (and surprisingly I was the first placed female in the virtual event!). As we ticked off the kilometres I was adding up how much we had earned, e.g. at the 25k mark I told Vince we've earned $500 so far (the total amount was at $1000 when we ran it). Thank you again for your support of such a worthy cause. Your support honestly kept me going during the later stages of the run when it was really tempting to stop and get dry and warm. In the photo Vince and I had three kilometres to go, our friend Anthony, very kindly joined us for half of the run.
One woman dies every 48 hours. Help us improve the survival of ovarian cancer.
