Cycle for Darfur

      23 February 2010

Hi everyone, What an incredible week! Another 770ks under the belt and the Wellington to Auckland Cycle Challenge conquered. It was an amazing journey, with some colourful characters, ridiculously huge hills, wicked descents, lonely roads, roadworks, sheep, cow dungcthe best of rural NZ. The 7 days of cycling were broken up into 13 stages so I found it tough at first having to sit around for a few hours in the middle of the day, then having to find another 40 ? 60 odd ks in the heat of the afternoon. Thanks to Gareth (support crew) and Clinton (Mangawhai Riders) for their awesome support! And thanks to you ? a few old school/uni friends, the kind people at Sport Northland and KPMG Hamilton, we raised more than our target $300 (including offline donations). If youfre interested to find out more about the Stoves for Africa project ? check out our website http://www.stovesfordarfur.org.nz"" www.stovesfordarfur.org.nz A site we regularly check is http://www.savedarfur.org""www.savedarfur.org?and here is a recent blog http://blogfordarfur.org/archives/3000"">http://blogfordarfur.org/archives/3000 Cheers Ren

  • Update for 01/02/2010

      1 February 2010

The countdown is on! Hi everyone, I've just come back from a 150k ride around the mountain in Taranaki - awesome ride but it was so hot!? This was my last training event before the BIG ONE, so it was good to knock out the miles even though I've been feeling pretty flat the last couple of weeks. I did manage to get in?some good riding over Xmas and New Year as planned, mainly?short fast rides as the heat was pretty intense down in Mahia.??? Two weeks to go till I start my tour of duty and I'm looking forward to the challenge.? I promise there wont be any records broken but I will finish, hopefully with my sanity intact! :) Cheers Ren

  • back in the saddle

      9 December 2009

After completing Gwaloop in October and cycling around Lake Taupo in November, I've set my sights on a new challenge - a 7 day, 734km slog from Upper Hutt to Pukekohe in February.? I'm gonna need your support to get me up the Rimutakas and over the Pahiatua Track...and thats only the first two days! So think of me over Christmas and new years.? I'll be training hard while you all enjoy the finer things in life...haha. Ren
