Support for people living with Muscular Dystrophy

We are raising funds to help people with Muscular Dystropy attend MDA camps for fun, friendship and support.

Northland

Our friend Oliver Groom has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy which causes muscles to gradually weaken and then stop working. This brings a life time of challenges - not being able to move, eat, cough, etc. We admire Oli's ability to tackle challenges that come his way and would like to raise funds for Muscular Dystropy Association in honour of Oli.

We are challenging ourselves to mountain bike the length of NZ as part of Tour Aotearoa. That's 3000 km in 30 days on mountain bike tracks and gravel roads carrying all our camping gear. When the going gets tough we will think of Oli.

Please sponsor us either per km or fixed amount to go to Muscular Dystrophy Association. Oli says they are a great support providing field workers, support and some equipment. Oli also really enjoyed attending the camps where he got support and encouragement from other people in similar situations. He would like us to raise funds for MDA so more people can benefit from their services.

I am inspired by the way my friend Oliver Groom tackles all the challenges that come his way. Oli told me that he found the MDA camps really beneficial for meeting others, making friends, sharing ideas, getting support and having fun. We would like to fundraise to give more people the opportunity to benefit from these camps.

We made it!  20 March 2018

Yahoo! . We made it with time to spare so off to Stewart Island to celebrate. I think we were the hares in this event taking days out to catch up with family, enjoy lying in the sunshine and camping by lakes etc then cycling fast and long (eg 245 km one day) to get back with our cycling buddies. It was great sharing the journey with people along the way but the best thing was always having my husband right there with me. No challenge is too big when you have a special person to share the journey. 😊 Thanks to all the generous people who have made donations.
