Raising money and awareness for Heart Kids NZ, the only charity that supports children with congenital heart defects throughout their life
Wellington
Annabel Wood, Ashley Procter, Lisa Kitchin and myself are aiming to each complete a triathlon on March 22nd in Tauranga.
We decided this would be a good opportunity to try and raise some awareness for Heart Kids New Zealand. Every week, 12 babies are born with a heart defect in New Zealand. Whilst there are surgical procedures that can improve the heart's function, there is no cure for a Congenital Heart Disease (CHD).
Heart Kids NZ is the only charity that supports Kiwi children and families affected by CHD, right through their life.
Heart Kids NZ receives no government funding and has to fundraise for all its services so it's especially important to support them with opportunities such as this.
As some of you will know my little brother Luca was born 24th July 2014 with a hypo plastic right heart requiring several open heart surgeries and full heart transplant once he hits mid-late teens. So far he has had 2 open heart surgeries, one at 4 days old and one at about 4 months old which was followed by a massive stroke affecting 2/3 of the left side of his brain. He truly is a little fighter and his scar will definitely be what they like to call "a badge of bravery".
It would be incredible if you could get behind these kids and show your support by giving a little to Heart Kids NZ. It will be greatly appreciated.
