Fundraising for Gumboot Friday
Tauranga, Bay Of Plenty
Kia Ora Whānau!
My name is Jonah, I live in Tauranga, where I run a free youth development program called Te Ara Kaha. Our program is based on developing confidence and social growth through adventure and challenge in the outdoors.
This November, I will be taking my journey as an advocate for our youth onto the roads and trails — by running 10km every day to fundraise for Gumboot Friday, an organisation providing access to free, timely, and accessible counselling for our rangatahi.
Rules:
- I must run a minimum of 10km every day - no exceptions.
- If I pick up an injury that makes it impossible to run, I will walk the distance.
- Every run will be posted on Strava as proof.
- Only one indoor/treadmill run per week.
- Runs can be done any time of day, and up to three shorter runs can be stitched together.
This challenge isn’t just about running — it’s about standing for the hauora of our youth, leaning into discomfort to find growth, and opening doors for those who don’t yet have the access or awareness to ask for help.
I invite you to join me this November: please donate, spread the word, or join me on a run as I navigate my way through an undoubtedly unpleasant month!
