Mandy Mackie your two songs came up early and were great to get me going!

Michael Jongeneel and Anna Jongeneel I was crossing a few junctions on SH39 when Venga Boys started so I had to take my headphones off while I watched for traffic (safety first!).

Lucky for me 9 to 5 was up when I hit Burbush Road and the first hill. From Burbush to Exelby - both pretty easy roads.

I cruised along to The Eagles thanks to Michelle Berry. Rotokauri Road however, that hill approaching the school killed me.

I had a caffeine strip Joanne Williams at that point and went WHOOPS my guts is churning! Mild panic which made me run faster but turned out to be a false alarm.

Duck Road nearly killed me and I almost gate crashed Kylie Scott Scotts on Duck to stick my head under a tap but thought the better of it. It's a long, long way from there to Fullerton Road by which time I thought I was about to fall over.

Fullerton started off with gorgeous sloping hills down down down but what goes down must go up and by the time I popped out onto Horotiu Road again my toes were numb and my feet burning.

I have blisters. I'm feeling a bit light headed. I need a sit down and a shower. Maybe both at the same time.

Thankfully the next time I run that far with the THE day and I'll be mentally prepared for it and have the sound track to keep me entertained!

Thank you everyone for your generous donations and your (mostly) excellent songs which kept me company and in good spirits. Here's to 8th October!

I'm feeling nervous! I was hoping this coastal run that I've done plenty of times before would be a doddle and it was good, but not as easy as it should have been. Zara's been waking up 10 times a night since we've been at the beach and is really unsettled. I've got a sinus infection and am also feeling a bit rotten. So with the lack of sleep and antibiotics and the weather being gale force winds and rain this has been a tough week.

I'm not making excuses (although it might sound like it) I'm totally doing this and am going to do my best.

I have to say todays run was saved by a bit of Bloc Party, a bit of Boy Kill Boy, as well as Dog Days are Over by Florence and The Machine, and White Light, by Gorillaz (not a normal song to sing to but the perfect pace to get me up the last hill).

Thanks so much to everyone for your words of encouragement, your donations and your song recommendations. My fundraising target has been smashed and I am going to SMASH THIS RUN on Sunday!

  • A run in the sun!

Just two weeks before the big race and I'm feeling good.

Tomorrow is another big training run and I'm hoping to smash out about 16 - 18 kms in my last big run before the race.

You may have seen me in my bright yellow Cancer Society shirt on Wednesday, out on Bedford and Ngaruawahia Roads. Probably one of the only training runs I've done where it hasn't rained. Lucky me!

I'm over half way to reaching my sponsorship goal of $500. If you're thinking of sponsoring me, please do. I'll let you choose a song (any song) to add to my running play list so every time I hear it I'll think of you (choose wisely Michael Jongeneel and Anna Jongeneel so I don't end up wanting to bamboo your toenails after this is all finished).

This was actually a really enjoyable run. I even ran up the up bits. Must mean I'm getting fitter. (Thank goodness!) #TeamJonathon In training for the Hamilton Half Marathon & Round-The-Bridges runs. Raising funds for Mouth Cancer Awareness + Cancer Research. Please sponsor me.
