Running for Team Jonathon to raise funds for cancer research.

Waikato

In 2006 I met a man called Jon Scott. He was one of the funniest, most charismatic and energetic people I've ever met and I count myself very lucky to have been his friend, business partner and protégé.

Jon encouraged and supported me over the years and was always there to offer guidance when I needed it.

Sadly, in 2015, Jon passed away from mouth cancer. It was a totally shocking and unpredictable ending for someone who was incredibly healthy and fit in every way.

Jon loved running. But being over 6ft tall I would never run with him as I'd never keep up.

I made a promise to Jon before he passed away, that my children would grow up knowing how important he was in my life as I found my way through life.

I'm running for Jon: to give myself opportunity to talk about him, to grieve for him and to raise funds for Cancer Research.

I'm running for Team Jonathon.

Mandy Mackie your two songs came up early and were great to get me going!

Michael Jongeneel and Anna Jongeneel I was crossing a few junctions on SH39 when Venga Boys started so I had to take my headphones off while I watched for traffic (safety first!).

Lucky for me 9 to 5 was up when I hit Burbush Road and the first hill. From Burbush to Exelby - both pretty easy roads.

I cruised along to The Eagles thanks to Michelle Berry. Rotokauri Road however, that hill approaching the school killed me.

I had a caffeine strip Joanne Williams at that point and went WHOOPS my guts is churning! Mild panic which made me run faster but turned out to be a false alarm.

Duck Road nearly killed me and I almost gate crashed Kylie Scott Scotts on Duck to stick my head under a tap but thought the better of it. It's a long, long way from there to Fullerton Road by which time I thought I was about to fall over.

Fullerton started off with gorgeous sloping hills down down down but what goes down must go up and by the time I popped out onto Horotiu Road again my toes were numb and my feet burning.

I have blisters. I'm feeling a bit light headed. I need a sit down and a shower. Maybe both at the same time.

Thankfully the next time I run that far with the THE day and I'll be mentally prepared for it and have the sound track to keep me entertained!

Thank you everyone for your generous donations and your (mostly) excellent songs which kept me company and in good spirits. Here's to 8th October!
