Team Thunda’s Big Bike Ride through the Southern Alps 546 kms, 15,000 vertical metres of climbing Raising money for “The Key to Life”
Bay of Plenty
Imagine racing a bike from the sea to the top of Mount Everest, then back down to the sea, then back up to almost the top of the Mount Everest… all within seven days!
That’s Team THUNDA (Thundaflo Ltd. Directors - John & Richard) will be embarking on during the 1st week of February 2016 when we race The Pioneer, a 7 day stage race through the mountains of the South Island, New Zealand. Our mission is to ride hard and finish (I pretty sure we won’t make the podium as we are both over 60 now) however we plan to give our age group category 50+, a bloody good nudge!
You will be able to track our progress online on The Pioneer website.
However more importantly we are aiming to highlight mental health issues in New Zealand and raise funds to support Sir John Kirwin’s charity “The Key to Life” to raise awareness about mental health, and help provide education and treatment.
Please donate to this worthy cause which is becoming more prevalent in today’s high pressured society.
I'm riding my bike...
Thanks a lot Gavin. They found it incredibly hard. Rich said the motu was pimps as a measure!! Heat stroke and no shelter were major factors. Things we hadn't factored in. Incredible heat. But it was an amazing week. Well organised and I think they would consider doing it again. Thanks Sooo much for your donation.
Thank you Sooo much. We will do our best!!
You shouldn't have done that gran. Sooo generous!!
Hi to Andy and all you guys across the ditch Thanks for this - most appreciated. Login to the pioneer webpage 8.00am onwards during the week to live track progress... or lack thereof! Arrived in Christchurch today and was shaken by a 4.3 earthquake... gave me a bit of a turn however locals hardly raised an eyebrow. J
