In 10 days I will walk 10km with 10L and almost certainly die, all in the name of raising awareness for humanitarian engineering.
Canterbury
Globally, 1 in 9 people lack access to safe water. Water accessibility is a major problem in many countries. To retrieve water, often kilometres will have to be travelled either way, with the heavy load of the water adding to the difficulty of the task. Even so, this water may still not be free of potentially dangerous bacteria or organisms.
In order to raise awareness of this issue, I will be taking part in the Running Without Borders Walk For Water, walking 10km while carrying 10L of water to raise awareness of this issue. This is a distance and weight comparable to what is travelled and carried in some communities every day during dry season. I also hope to spread awareness for Humanitarian Engineering, and in the process raise some money for Engineer's Without Borders (EWBNZ).
All donations are greatly appreciated - consider donating today's coffee money! Anything helps to make my suffering worthwhile :)
I have been a member of EWB since 2016, and am currently on the Exec of the Canterbury Students Chapter
