Supporting Hospice Waikato and Variety NSW's Hair with Heart Program
Waikato
On 6 June 2020 I’ll be chopping off 45cm of my hair and donating it to the Variety’s Hair with Heart program. I am also hoping to raise $1,500 in donations for Hospice Waikato.
My hair will be given a second life and made into wigs for people who have lost their hair due to a medical condition such as alopecia or cancer. My hair will be donated to Variety – The Children’s Charity NSW.
Growing my hair long enough to donate has been years in the making. When my father was first diagnosed with cancer in 2013 and underwent chemotherapy, I saw first hand what losing your hair could do to a person’s confidence. I promised my father I would grow my locks and donate it to a cause that would help such people.
Whilst my father didn’t live to see the day of me fulfilling my promise, I want to dedicate this fundraiser to him and donate all money raised to Hospice Waikato. Hospice Waikato provide a variety of specialist palliative care services for people with terminal illness. They were a dedicated and compassionate group of health professionals and volunteers who supported my family and father in his last six months of life.
The Big Chop will take place on 6 June 2020 at Studio 8 Hair (@studio8_hair) in Manly by the wonderful and talented Salon Manager Siobhan (@siobhan_studio8).
Please support and donate to this cause – no donation is too small!
A dedication to my father and Hospice Waikato. Hospice Waikato are a dedicated and compassionate group of health professionals and volunteers who supported my family and father in his last six months of life.
